In an effort to create a sense of understated luxury within Tattenham Corner, a traditional pub overlooking Epsom Racecourse, the client opted for JackEvie’s Odell solid herringbone flooring from the Valley Collection. This classic yet contemporary floor was chosen to bring depth and texture to key areas of the pub, complementing its blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern elegance.

Crafted from 22mm thick solid oak, each herringbone block measured 70mm by 300mm, with a tumbled edge to enhance its authentic, aged aesthetic. The staining process used in Odell interacts beautifully with the oak’s natural tannins, resulting in a rich, multi-tonal finish that accentuates the wood’s intricate grain patterns. Gentle brushing further highlights these details, adding texture and character to the floor while ensuring it remains hardwearing and practical for a high-traffic hospitality space.

The solid herringbone floor was particularly well suited to areas where visual impact was key, enhancing the grandeur of the interior design. Its timeless pattern not only added a sense of sophistication but also provided an enduring connection to traditional British pub heritage. With a durable UV oil finish, the floor was well protected against the inevitable wear and tear of busy footfall, ensuring that it would maintain its beauty for years to come.

To ensure consistency, matching engineered planks were used for the corridor and staircase, seamlessly connecting the different levels of the pub. The end result was a beautifully unified space where the warm hues of the wood worked in perfect harmony with the pub’s reclaimed wooden beams, roaring fireplaces, and snug areas.
